Helping folk get healthier
A SPORTS centre is playing an increasing important role in helping people be in control of their weight and keep healthy.
Bridlington Sports Centre, off Gypsey Road, has been running its Weight Management Programme for over a year.
The programme, run by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, offers people a weekly weigh in, nutritional talks and exercise classes all for £1.25 a session and it has proved to be a winner with local people, attracting new members every week.
Its Tone Zone gym has recently been moved to a much larger ground level room to cope with the demand and more fitness machines and equipment has been installed.
It now has state of the art cardio-vascular machines, weight restraint machines, a free weight area and multi-use pulleys.
Alongside the weight management programme the centre is also
helping those with medical problems.
It runs a successful GP Exercise Referral Scheme working with the areas Primary Care Trust, which refers clients with medical conditions that would benefit from exercise to the sports centre.
They are helping patients with a variety of problems including mobility and joint conditions like arthritis and osteoporosis, coronary heart disease and angina and asthma.
Lynn Church, the programme consultant at the sports centre, said: "We have been running the programme for several years and recent groups to come on the scheme have been outstanding. Many of the referral group have gone on to be committed gym users both here and at Leisure World".

Squash League
Squash League off to a Great Start

Six Star Darley
Bridlington Sports Centre Squash League rolled on and Glyn Owen continued his unbelievable run of not loosing a game with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Carl Harland. This win moved Glyn to joint top of Division One. Division Two saw the luckless Kev Darley play two games. The first of these games matched him with Kev Whitaker and despite his youthful exuberance Kev Whitaker showed too much tactical know-how and came out 3-0 winner. Kev managed to duplicate this scoreline in a tighter game with the experienced Dan Moore. After these results Kev has now landed on a 6 game loosing streak. The division three leaders were both in action but with differing results. Roger Gill lost out to an energetic Steve Brown 3-1, though John Bell showed excellent shot selection when overcoming Stuart Denness.

Game week 4
All Stars 8 v 4 Manor FC
Coming off the back of an 18 v 2 defeat Manor FC showed some real character to run in form All Stars, all the way in this close encounter.
It was All Stars who took the early advantage scoring twice in the first 5 minutes through Josh Chrislow & Jamie Osborne, but Manor FC’s player of the match, Brad Larkin had other ideas firing in from close range to make it 2 v 1. All Stars then had most of possession but good organised defending from Manor FC kept them at bay.
Again though some lapses in concentration let them down and Jamie Osborne made them pay with some neat finishing with a first half hat-trick and another from Chrislow to make it 5 v 1 at half time.
A bizarre own goal started the second half from Manor Keeper Jason Marston to make it 6 v 1 however this time around there was no collapse from Manor FC. Sean Drake, Lee Sutton and Dan Pickard all scored to make it 6 v 4. Manor FC continued to push forward and had chances but a forth from Jamie Osborne and a neat finish from Jason Batty ensure All Stars came out on top.

Real Mabrid 7 v 3 East Riding College
Real Mabrid came out on top in this top of the table clash. Mabrid welcomed back player manager Kevin Darley whilst East Riding college were left short due to injuries and work commitments.
It was Mabrid who took an early lead, the impressive Matty Clay firing in from 5 meters. However, as expected, the game was a tight affair both teams defending well and keeping chances to a minimum. College keeper, Nick Van made a couple of saves but first half goal action was few and far between.
The game burst to life second half, Matty Clay, again, and Gerrard Fenne scoring to leave the game at 3 v 0. This meant College had to attack and in 3 and a half minutes 5 goals were scored. Dave Sellers on 28 mins and Sam Belcher on 30 gave college hope but Fenne & Man of the match Clay completed their hat ricks either side of these goals to leave college no hope.
With 1 minute remaining Sam Belcher blasted in a penalty but it was no enough to stop Mabrid retaining top spot and see college slip to 3rd.

Snainton 2 v 11 East Coast Futsal
Despite the scoreline the both teams were evenly matched in in a tight first half. East Coast scored the quickest goal of the day, Dan Marston on 23 seconds but that was it for a full 15minutes.
Snainton were very organised in defence being patient in their approach and this told when they hit East Coast on the counter for Mike Chapman to poke home to level. Marston then hit his second quickly followed by Stuart Wallace to make it 3 for East Coast but the team goal of the day saw Snainton pick apart the Coast team with quick passing and a fine finish from James Wilson made it 2 v 3 at half time.
What happened next was in complete contrast to the first half. Snainton’s discipline went and East Coast scored at will. Man of the match Stuart Wallace hit 3 in a row, Joe Sunter and Kieran Link hit a brace each and Luke Foster capped a good debut by firing in to seal a comfortable win for East Coast and send them to 2nd in the league.
